Some of the Details

After introducing Jon to the idea of recording our trip on a blog, I didn't realize I'd have to fight for computer time. He loves to write.

So far we have had some questions about where we are going or what the name of the blog is about. Head on over to the "About Us" page under the title "KettleBlack". Hopefully, that entry will answer at least some of your questions.

In the meantime, I'll start at the beginning....
Once upon a time on a sweaty hot July day, in a crazy Emergency Room, a young mother was about to give birth...  oops, not that beginning. Actually it was November of last year when we decided that it was finally time; we always  knew we wanted to travel to South America, to help, to explore and perfect our spanish.
I wanted to help out at an orphanage because of the excellent, life changing experience I had as a 19 year old, and now ten years later I return with a husband. When we started looking for an orphanage I was hoping to return to the orphanage in Nicaragua where I worked previously, and show Jon the country I came to love. But as we searched and searched we realized that there were so many other places that also needed help. Weeks later we came across Generations Humanitarian. It was a perfect fit for our needs. It was one of the few non-profit organizations that didn't charge you anything to sign up. We felt they needed us more than our money.

There are still many things we don't know all the details for. Here is what we DO know:

We will be going to Oropesa, Peru to an orphanage called Azul Wasi.
We will be House Parents to approx. 15 children, ages range from 6-18 years old.
We will be helping kids do the things kids need help with, dressing, eating, studying, learning, etc.
We will be Assistant Directors helping to organize and direct other volunteers.
We will be staying there for about 3-4 months and after that we plan on doing some trekking.

If anyone has more questions please feel free to contact us (see the "Contact Us" page), we would love to answer your questions!
